Nursery Ends

After 3 years Olive's time at Dickybirds nursery is coming to an end as her fellow "Woodpeckers" prepare to move on to school in Sept. In order to mark this momentous occasion the nursery stages a school play and worked with the kids to choose three stories they would like to perform for their parents. There was an interpretation of Peter Pan a version of 'Under the Sea' a scene from the Little Mermaid and then one slightly more experimental story combining a mini mum and dad in which the dad who was a doctor or more like a mini mad scientist turned into multiple Spidermen and then well, did some stuff and turned back into a doctor -brilliant!

Our little Smuffin took part in the Little Mermaid episode and played an extremely adorable green-fairy-Alien complete with some fetching delee-boppers thanks to mum!!!

Olive here rescued the Little Mermaid (Zhara) from prison and the Pirates!

Here the Nursery manager explains to the audience the great effort the kids put in to stage the plays with all the kids trying to be patient and
ready to act!

Look a little Oscar to the left of Olive in the Shark outfit, love that!

...and there's those Spidermen!

And one of Olive's best friends Daisy played the part of Peter Pan!

And Olive cheeky as is her nature blows another raspberry for the camera. We are so proud of our little monkey!

iBot

The other day Baxter got hold of my ipod and he was very adamant that i helped him put the earphones in his little ears so he could listen to the curious sounds that were emanating from it. So, I did and what better an opportunity than to introduce my little boy to some John Zorn! Excellent choice there Baxter.

Quickly this turned from genuine curiosity to understand what this thing was and how it worked to now I want to walk around the flat dragging it behind me and i will get very frustrated if the earphones keep falling out or the ipod becomes disconnected and with this I will throw a tantrum and give Daddy a look that says, this toy is rubbish!

Face Paint the Sequel

A year has passed since I documented the last face painting episode and Olive is still unsatisfied with merely putting paint on paper and another would be innocent painting session quickly moved from paper to....arm...

to FACE!

Light Show

On May 6th we took Olive and Baxter (with Meme and Pepe in tow!) to see there first proper modern art exhibition the Light Show at the Hayward Gallery.

For Dad this was quite an important event as I have thought long and hard about what would be their first proper art experience and wanted it to provoke a lasting impression. With that in mind I had ruled out taking them to see a painting show as they would likely get bored or not pay attention being so young but the Light Show promised a more interactive visual experience and including some of my all-time favourite artists I thought this was the show to take them too and really it couldn't have been any better -they loved it! One particular installation was a huge success; Chromosaturation, 2008 by Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez. All the kids were running and rolling around in a space saturated with just pure coloured light. It was a delight to behold and a good measure of a successful wok that children and grown-ups alike can interact and enjoy a work on the same level. Brilliant.
